Man arrested for walking around with his father’s severed head and a knife in the Lyon suburb of Saint-Priest

A man has been arrested in France after being found with his father’s decapitated head in one hand and the knife believed to have been used to remove it in the other, police say near the Lyon suburb of Saint- priest

The horrifying incident began when police found the father’s body in a parking lot over the weekend. Locals had reported witnessing a heated debate among family members and the son chasing his father around with a large knife.

Witnesses say the attacker shouted “Allah Akbar” or “God is great,” traditionally associated with terrorist attacks, but police have determined the incident was a family feud. according to ActuLyon news site.

Police then followed a trail of blood to where the 25-year-old son was standing with undeniable evidence. Police say they fought with the son to apprehend him.

The weekend’s attack was carried out by a local Moroccan known to police for petty crime and drug offenses.

“I am terribly shocked by this despicable family drama that has taken place in our city. What society do we live in? How can we come to such acts?” said the mayor of Saint-Priest, Gilles Gascon. “I would like to thank our city and state police for their quick intervention and for overriding our video surveillance center.”

It’s not the first time that the small Lyon suburb has been the scene of such a heinous crime. In 2013, an elderly woman was found with her head on the floor in her bathroom. In 2020, another elderly woman was beaten to death by her son just blocks away from where the latest crime took place. And in 2015, a businessman was beheaded by an employee in an alleged Islamist terrorist attack.
